American cars are extremely popular in Australia, with Ford regularly one of the best-selling brands in the country. Want a US car for your next purchase? Read on to find out who’s selling here at the moment.
The five American car manufacturers with a presence in Australia in 2026 are:
- Chevrolet
- Ford
- Jeep
- RAM
- Tesla
Chevrolet

Chevrolet is a name that goes back decades, founded in 1911 in Connecticut, USA. Over the next century, they built a name for themselves in various industries, with a strong reputation for their sports cars and utes (or pickup trucks as they call them). In Australia, there are currently three Chevrolet models available:
- Corvette (sports car)
- Silverado (ute)
- Yukon Denali (SUV)
In America, they have a few other options like the Blazer, Colorado, Equinox and Trax, many with a fully-electric option available.
Ford

Australia’s second favourite car brand (behind the Japanese Toyota), America’s Ford has a wide range of options, from compact SUV to transit van and trusty, reliable utes:
- Everest
- F-150
- Mustang
- Mustang Mach-E
- Ranger
- Transit
Fords are undeniably popular in Australia. In 2024, the Ford Ranger was the most sold vehicle in the country (not just the most sold ute, the most sold anything).
Jeep

One of the most famous names in the car world, Jeep is a proud US brand that does more than just sell cars – the company also has a popular clothing range.
The Jeep Wrangler is the classic and iconic model and that design has been used to create the Gladiator ute.
The SUV design is definitely the go-to for Jeep, with more modern designs available in the Avenger, Compass and Grand Cherokee. Jeep claims that at $40k driveaway, the Avenger (pictured) is the cheapest SUV in Australia.
RAM

RAMs have gained notoriety in Australia, but not necessarily for all the right reasons. There are currently three models available on the local market – the 1500, 2500 and 3500 – all of them utes.
RAMs are known for their off-road features and their towing capacity (ideal if you have heavy farm equipment), but they also draw a lot of criticism for their huge size. The “Yank Tanks” struggle to fit in regular parking spots, causing disruption for pedestrians or other motorists.
There are also safety concerns due to the height of the cab, with reduced visibility endangering pets or children in front of the vehicle.
Tesla

Famous for their electric vehicles, the company founded by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning in 2003 grew rapidly before seeing a decline in sales in the last couple of years.
Although Tesla is a US company, the Teslas available in Australia are predominantly made in their Chinese factories.
As of the beginning of 2026, there are two options from Australian car yards:
- Model 3
- Model Y
Each model has various options, but as a price guide you can expect to pay up to $70,496 for a rear-wheel drive Model Y and up to $87,705 for a performance all-wheel drive Model 3.
The planned rollout of the Cybertruck seems to have stalled while the many problems with the design and safety of the N64-style car are seen to.
Chrysler

Despite having dealerships in all Australian states (but not the Northern Territory), Chrysler doesn’t actually sell new models in Australia.
The Chrysler 300, a luxury sedan, was brought to our market in 2005, but left in 2021. Dealerships offer servicing and support for owners. Second-hand models, often 10 years older, can be found for around $15k if you don’t mind 150k on the clock.
