Which European car brands are in Australia in 2026?

European cars have a special place in the hearts of Australian drivers. Although Asian cars are the best selling, there are plenty of cars from Europe on our roads.

The British MG ZS is the 4th best-selling petrol vehicle in Australia in 2025, (the MG4 is the 9th best-selling EV), the German BMW X3 is the 6th most popular hybrid vehicle, and three of the best-selling diesel vehicles are made by European brands.

European cars in Australia

As of March 2026, there are cars from seven European countries available in Australia:

  • Czech Republic
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • United Kingdom

Cars from other EU nations may be available for import, but they don’t have any dealerships with an Aussie address.

Czech cars

There’s currently one car brand from Czech Republic available in Australia: Skoda.

Something of a joke in the 80s and 90s, Skoda underwent a massive revival in the 21st century and has now become a brand with a great reputation.

There’s now 28 Skoda models and brands available here, including favourites the Fabia, Octavia and Scala. There are also plenty of new options for 2026, including the Elroq, Enyaq and Kodiaq series.

French cars

French cars have a rich, long history. The three brands available in Australia which are all instantly recognisable – Alpine, Peugeot and Renault – and you know you’re buying something reliable when you go French. Citroen was available here until last year.

German cars

If you’re looking for a car that’s been engineered to the highest possible degree, you can’t go wrong with a German car.

There are five German manufacturers in Australia as of early 2026:

  • Audi
  • BMW
  • Mercedes-Benz
  • Porsche
  • Volkswagen

Each one of these brands stands out in one way or another. Whether you’re looking for a luxury vehicle, a classic sports car or an affordable city car, you’re spoilt for choice with these Euro options.

Italian cars

Almost all Italian cars have their roots in racing, meaning you’re going to get something that has plenty of punch when you press down on the accelerator.

With the likes of Lamborghini, Ferrari and Maserati to choose from, Italian cars tend to be at the upper end of the price scale, but owners tend to think they’re worth every cent. Other Italian car brands available in Australia in 2026 include Abarth, Alfa Romeo and Fiat.

Spanish cars

Like many of the Italian cars, the only Spanish brand available in Australia began life in racing. Cupra is headquartered near Barcelona. It began life 30 years ago as part of the Seat brand but became its own marque in 2018.

Although there were only four Cupra models available in Australia last year, that’s gone up to seven for 2026:

  • Ateca (SUV)
  • Born (electric hatchback)
  • Formentor (SUV)
  • Leon (hatchback)
  • Leon Sportstourer (wagon) – new
  • Tavascan (SUV coupe) – new
  • Terramar (SUV) – new

There are other models available in Europe – like the UrbanRebel – but as yet there’s no word of when or if these might be in showrooms here.

Swedish cars

If you’re looking for a Swedish car, you’ve currently got two options. The Polestar EV range and the ever reliable Volvos.

Polestar is fast becoming the most popular EV brand in the world, although some Chinese car brands are hot on their heels. They currently have four options available in Australia, all handily numbered: 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Volvo almost needs no introduction. One of the safest brands to drive, Volvo has been at the forefront of safety innovation for decades. There’s a classic shape associated with Volvos, but that’s not the only option – the C40, ES90 and EX30 all have designs that eschew this traditional look.

British cars

Australia’s colonial roots can be seen on modern roads, with nine brands that began life in the UK currently available here.

The range in these cars is unbelievable. From Aston Martin, Bentley and Rolls-Royce at one end of the spectrum and Mini and Ineos at the other ends, there’s plenty to choose from. That’s before we get to the likes of Land Rover and Jaguar, too.
